PLAN!T NOW has engaged a number of different organizations in partnerships to further its mission of empowering hurricane-prone communities. Logos of our partners are shown below, and we have highlighted our associations with three major partners.
A very successful partnership is ongoing between PLAN!T NOW and the Sierra Club, which began leading conversation campaigns 106 years ago when John Muir fought to protect the boundaries of Yosemite National Park. Evidence from the aftermath of hurricanes has shown that the protection of nature’s natural lines of defense—wetlands, forests and flood plains—is crucial to reducing the devastating effects of hurricanes on coastal residents. In July, Sierra Club and PLAN!T NOW released the first of two sets of “Get Prepared” public service announcements (PSA’s) on climate change and storm preparedness, featuring PLAN!T NOW Board Member Morgan Freeman.
American Meteorological Society
Through a partnership with the American Meteorological Society (AMS), PLAN!T NOW receives research and statistical information on hurricanes. Dr. William H. Hooke, senior policy fellow and director of the Policy Program at the AMS, serves on PLAN!T NOW’s Chief Advisory Panel and helped foster relationships with NOAA and key officials at the National Hurricane Center. His office was instrumental in the development of the PSA Task Force and the structuring of information compiled for the storm readiness PSA’s.
Sidley Austin, LLP
Serving on PLAN!T NOW’s Chief Advisory Panel is Jeffrey A. Berman, a partner in the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice at Sidley Austin, LLP. Sidley is a global law firm with more than 1800 lawyers in 16 offices that represent a broad range of clients including multinational and domestic corporations, government authorities, banks and financial institutions. Berman has represented management in a variety of industries for over a third of a century. As PLAN!T NOW’s senior and founding advisor, Berman was responsible for Sidley becoming PLAN!T NOW’s pro bono law firm and has a strong interest in seeing progress made between PLAN!T NOW and micro-loan programs. Additionally, Julia M. Chester, an intellectual property lawyer at Sidley, serves on the Board of Directors for PLAN!T NOW.
