PLAN!T NOW Benefit Raises Scholarship Money for Youth

January 21, 2009, Los Angeles , CA – CMT Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney, and Oscar winning actor Morgan Freeman, were the hosts of a benefit for PLAN!T NOW, the non-profit organization Freeman helped found after Hurricane Ivan hit Grenada to provide relief for that Caribbean country, last week at the Four Seasons hotel. The organization, formerly the Grenada Relief Fund, renamed itself in 2008 and expanded its mission to include the US, Central America and the Caribbean and was one of the first celebrity-helmed ventures to raise money – over a half a million – for the Red Cross’ immediate relief efforts for Katrina.

The gala event, whose sponsors included the Atlantic Corporation of hurricane –vulnerable North Carolina; Chesney’s Morris Agency, Freeman’s production company, Revelations Entertainment; CAA; The RLJ Companies and the Entertainment Industry Foundation, hosted Hollywood elite and celebrity supporters, including Sharon Stone, Celebrity Advisor Alfre Woodard, Brian Nilon and his wife, actress Garcielle Beauvais- Nylon, Paul Block, P!N trustees former Secretary of Defense Bill Cohen and his wife, Janet; Danny Devito, Rhea Perlman, director Brad Sieberling; producers Quincy Jones , Arnold Kopelson and Mike Medavoy, and legends Sumner Redstone and Sidney Poitier.

The event also raised money for the P!N Undergraduate Hurricane Relief scholarship fund which will provide scholarships to hurricane-affected youth and others, for undergraduate studies at US and international colleges. A particular focus will be made on students who survived Ike’s strike on Galveston, TX in 2008.
